If you want one book

Head First Java, 3rd edition

Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates and Trisha Gee. O'Reilly Media, 2022. ISBN 978-1-4919-1077-1.

Very visual, with lots of small exercises. It suits students taking their first programming course who find textbooks dry. The 3rd edition covers Java 8 to 17. If your course has an assigned textbook, use that first.
